How can a Psychologist help clients of all ages?

Updated: Apr 22, 2022

Psychologists provide a warm, non-judgmental space in which to gain an understanding of the relationships between your thoughts and beliefs, your emotions, and your behaviours and decisions. Using evidence-based strategies, we will guide you in mastering skills and solutions to achieve positive life changes. All intervention is based on skilled assessment and is formulated on an individual basis. Therapy is conducted respectfully and collaboratively.

The approach is a little different and less formal when working with children and adolescents. While the evidence-based strategies informed by CBT and Behavioural Support Research remain, the goal is to make the child or adolescent feel comfortable and heard. This can be achieved through age-appropriate rapport building, such as play-based interactions, crafting or with the older child and adolescent, engaging in conversation which is in their scope of interest. Psychologists also work closely with parents to assist in skill attainment across the various environments within which the child functions, such as school, home, separated home circumstances and social circles.
