Speech Pathology & Psychology
What is a Psychologist?
A psychologist is trained in the science of how people think, feel and behave. The title of “psychologist” is regulated, and cannot be used without the fulfilment of rigorous study, qualification and ongoing professional development to maintain registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
A speech pathologist is a professional who is able to diagnose and treat disorders of communication. This includes difficulties with listening, speaking, reading, writing, social skills, stuttering and using voice. Communication difficulties may be developmental in nature or may arise due to learning problems or intellectual disability. Similarly, talking may be impacted by physical impairments such as cerebral palsy, cleft palate and hearing loss. Stroke, brain injury and dementia may also have an impact on communication skills.
